Title: Paralegal (County Attorney)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
Performs a variety of paralegal duties in order to assist the Arapahoe County Attorney’s Office in the efficient and effective execution of the legal process.
DUTIES:
- Assists attorneys with state, federal and administrative litigation matters including the calendaring, coordination and preparation of pleadings, motions, affidavits, exhibits, discovery, and responses thereto.
- Assists with calendaring and preparing responses to notices of claim, Colorado Open Records Act requests, and Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act requests.
- Assists with responding to subpoenas, including the gathering of responsive documents and the redaction of confidential information.
- Attends court in support of attorneys.
- Assists in coordinating litigation holds.
- Assists with County Board of Equalization/property tax appeals and hearings.
- Assists with liquor license applications and hearings.
- Assists with correspondence and filing.
- Follows county’s record retention policy as it pertains to records and electronically stored information.
- Communicates complex information with coworkers, attorneys, judges, other court personnel, and the general public by mail, in person, and by phone in a clear and concise manner.
- Maintains confidentiality and privacy of files.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.
REQUIREMENTS:
Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
- Knowledge of State and Federal procedural rules and applicable laws.
- Proficient in Microsoft word, excel, and outlook email to the extent of creating and editing memos and spreadsheets and scheduling meetings.

Education and Experience:
- Paralegal degree or certificate from an A.B.A approved school or equivalent.
- Three (3) years preferred experience as a litigation or records/document management paralegal, or as a law clerk in a law office, court environment, or governmental law environment. May consider experience as a legal secretary or legal assistant.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience with records/document management or compliance related records/document management, as a litigation paralegal, or as a law clerk in law office, court environment, or governmental law environment may be substituted for the educational requirements.
Pre-Employment Additional Requirements:
Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and background check.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.

- Spends 50% of the time sitting and 50% of the time either standing or walking.
